Nutrition among Filipino children is a key development issue that requires clear and actionable data for policy action.
The National Nutrition Information System (NNIS), under the National Nutrition Council, serves as the country’s main database for encoding, analyzing and reporting nutrition-related data. Building capacity for its roll-out is vital to ensure its effectiveness in aiding policy, especially as the system is implemented all over the country. To this end, the NNC partnered with OI to conduct and facilitate the training rollout of the Operation Timbang Plus Manual of Operations.

Building capacity at all levels of public work is crucial in ensuring efficient services for the good of the community. This requires training that is responsive to the specific needs of specific cohorts. This insight is at the heart of the capacity-building that OI rolled out across various regions of the country.
Outcome-Oriented / Informed by Evidence
Over the course of a month, the training team conducted seven sessions, engaging nearly 200 participants, including a wide range of government workers in barangays, municipalities, cities, and provinces. It likewise spanned the whole Philippines, from Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Leyte, Cebu, and Negros Occidental, to the National Capital Region. The diverse group of attendees, representing various roles and regions, benefited from targeted sessions designed to improve their proficiency and effectiveness in their respective positions.
On-Point / Impact-Driven
The results of pre- and post-testing showed significant improvement in the performance of those involved. Most impressively, the participants achieved a post-test passing rate of 95.67%, demonstrating the improvement in their knowledge and skills. This high passing rate demonstrates the training's success in effectively preparing attendees and advancing their proficiency in using the NNIS. Ultimately, the training effectively built capacity towards the larger implementation of nutrition policy in the country.
