Pa-Check Ka Lungs

Tuberculosis is an airborne disease that affects around a million Filipinos—making the Philippines the third highest in terms of disease prevalence.
Public health experts have sounded the alarm on the severity of the tuberculosis situation in the Philippines, especially in light of the availability of treatment. USAID supports the national TB elimination efforts of the Department of Health. Part of its efforts is the Para Healthy Lungs, Pa-Check Ka Lungs!, a communications campaign that seeks to engage various stakeholders to put the country back on track in its fight against TB and promote overall lung health.
Objective-Aligned / Insight-Aware
Part of implementing an integrated advocacy campaign for TB elimination is ensuring participation from stakeholders across the board: from policy-makers and health advocates, to community leaders and the general public. TB has far-reaching consequences not just to individuals and families, but the nation at large. Building on momentum from high visibility events is effective in amplifying the message of overall lung health and TB elimination, and OI organized a Guinness World Record attempt based on this insight.
Outcome-Oriented / Informed by Evidence
TB is among the leading public health issues in the world, but data—often communicated through technical jargon—doesn't necessarily translate to action among the general public. By mounting a high visibility event such as a Guinness World Record attempt, OI encouraged participation from a diverse range of stakeholders, while also highlighting the advocacy behind the attempt. It also provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the Department of Health's program on TB elimination.
On-Point / Impact-Driven
As part of an overarching communications campaign that seeks to increase knowledge, influence attitudes, and promote the adoption of behaviors related to lung health and TB control, the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest human lung formation succeeded in bringing advocates, development partners, and the general public together. The record, previously held by India at 5,003 people, was broken by the Philippines at 5,596 participants.
